UNICEF UK

Sayer Vincent have been auditors since 2004. A key area for the audit is the reconciliation of the donor database with the income recorded in the accounting system. New systems and the tsunami have presented challenges, but have been handled by the UNICEF UK finance team and SV audit team working effectively together.

Early on, Sayer Vincent undertook a review of the finance function and the resulting report was used by UNICEF UK to shape the future development of the finance team. More recently, we have advised on the appropriate accounting treatment for new sources of income, a premises move and a joint venture activity. We also provide tax and VAT advice on trading and fundraising activities, plus general business advice on a range of matters as they arise.

The annual audit process fits with the reporting and meeting cycle, so our post-audit report provides a springboard for a discussion of the financial systems and controls at executive and trustee meetings. A robust annual audit and independent advice from the auditors provides the trustees with reassurance that financial matters are being handled appropriately.

UNICEF UK staff take full advantage of the seminars and forum meetings Sayer Vincent runs – they also contribute positively to those meetings and activities. We have a good working relationship marked by mutual respect and a professional approach on both sides.

"UNICEF UK’s relationship with Sayer Vincent is now a long and trusting one which encourages an honest and robust exchange of information and views. Together with Sayer Vincent’s independent advice to the trustees this helps ensure that appropriate policies, procedures, controls and reporting are in place to minimise the risks to our charity in an uncertain world.”
