Helen Elliott

“I love the challenge of working with charities. I might be contacted about a VAT problem, but actually the problem is much wider, and may involve other taxes or business management issues. I then work with the charity to find the best solution for them. Not everyone is as excited by tax issues as I am so it is great to be able to remove the jargon and confusion and explain complex issues in a straightforward way.”

Helen is an audit partner and leads VAT, gift aid, governance, mergers and due diligence reviews, provides training and facilitation for charities on finance, tax, governance and risk. She is a Fellow of the ICAEW and holds a Diploma in Charity Accounting.

Helen has helped many charities with tax issues including VAT on membership income, gift aid, VAT recovery, property, trading and employment issues. Previously, in addition to charities, she advised a number of commercial and manufacturing clients including smaller listed public companies.

She works with a wide range of charities, including hospices, professional membership bodies such as the Royal College of Radiologists, Greenpeace Environmental Trust, Ambitious About Autism, Motor Neurone Disease Association, British Lung Foundation,  Macmillan Cancer Support and the Old Vic Theatre Trust.

Helen is a recognised authority on charity issues, and is regularly invited to speak at external seminars. She leads our in-house tax specialist group, writes articles and is quoted in the charity and finance press.

Helen is the Sayer Vincent representative for the Charity Finance Group, working to help ensure best practice in charity finance, and is a special adviser to the Charities' Internal Audit Network, which helps charities to achieve their objectives more efficiently.
