Trustee Forum

What is the Trustee Forum?
The Trustee Forum is a supported network of organisations with a common interest in improving the effectiveness of charities. The Forum aims to support good governance of charities by focusing on key areas such as HR, finance, IT and funding. It is also a platform for sharing learning, the exchange of ideas, past successes and implementation experiences.

What will the Forum do?
The forum will work to promote best practice through structured discussions on issues such as:
  • implementing the organisation's strategy and monitoring strategic performance
  • getting better decisions
  • succession planning
  • leading change
  • collaborative working
  • new ways of funding your work
Sessions planned in 2012/2013

What are the respective roles of trustees and management? How can the CEO and management team support the trustees and get the best out of them? In this session we will look at how communication flows should work between management and trustees and how interim working arrangements can be established to help manage change.
Well thought through and timely decisions are critical for effective governance and management of any organisation. How do you achieve this in a fast changing environment? This is particularly vital as trustees are usually disconnected from the day to day, just coming together periodically for meetings. This session will look at how to achieve pro-active decision making outside the routine confines of trustee meetings.
Charities are increasingly looking to social enterprise style activities to generate additional income streams to find innovative ways of delivering to client groups and therefore meet increasing stakeholder demands. This session will discuss the practicalities of social enterprise methods in raising additional funds, service provision, the legal and financial implications, and what you should be looking for along the way.
People who are adaptive are able to organise their thoughts in ways that generate appropriate and positive actions. But how do you implement strategic change whilst at the same time ensure it positively impacts your key stakeholders? This session will discuss what those responsible for governance should be aware of when applying strategic change; understand how this affects organisations and what you should look out for along the way to improve your chances of successful implementation.

The Forum is open to trustees and board members from all charities and senior managers are welcome to join sessions. We encourage the participation of a trustee and senior manager from the same organisation to each event.
