Our trainees

You have probably had a browse around the Sayer Vincent website and stumbled across Our people. This gives a little snapshot of some of the welcoming people you could be working with at Sayer Vincent. The prospect of starting a new job in accounting can be daunting however, the people at SV are supportive and friendly and will do everything they can to help you succeed. Read what some of our trainees have to say about what it is like working for us below.

Malika – Year 2 trainee

“Since starting at Sayer Vincent I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients who are all passionate about the work they do. SV is a great place to work if you want high quality training whilst making a difference with the work you carry out.

Balancing full time work and studying can be challenging, it requires dedication and good time management but it is so rewarding when you find out you’ve passed an exam. We are given study leave to go to college to learn the content for our ACA exams. Everyone at the firm is very supportive, the tutors at college are really helpful and the flexible working policy at Sayer Vincent makes it easier to fit in revision around client work.”

Lewis – Year 2 trainee

“I applied to be a trainee at Sayer Vincent because I was motivated to work in the not-for-profit sector after leaving my previous career. Working with lots of charities is fantastic and I have already been able to work with a wide range of different, interesting charities. Everyone at Sayer Vincent is extremely open and supportive and keen to help you develop; despite not coming from an accounting background at all, I have settled into the work very quickly. The most challenging part of the job is studying for the ACA exams alongside the job, but the tuition we receive at college is excellent, and the flexible working policy at Sayer Vincent allows you time to complete the other aspects of the much-valued ACA qualification as well.”

Vikki – Year 3 trainee

“I thoroughly enjoy working with charity clients. Every audit gives me the opportunity to meet and interact with different people from the sector who are passionate about the work they do. I feel motivated and inspired by the organisations we work with.

Alongside working with a great range of clients is the work environment and approachability of managers and partners in the firm. I feel valued as an employee and an individual by my fellow colleagues. Everybody is supportive and there is always somebody to ask a question to and to get a response. There is lots of support available for exams and studying, with a flexible work approach which allows you to spend time on personal development and other aspects of the ACA qualification which are equally as important.”

Alice – Year 3 trainee

“I joined Sayer Vincent because I wanted to work for a firm dedicated to supporting clients in the not-for-profit sector. Being able to come to work every day and help our clients succeed is a real pleasure. I’ve worked with a wide variety of clients, and all are incredibly passionate about what they do. Since day one at Sayer Vincent, I’ve taken a client-facing role and enjoyed meaningful responsibility. The biggest challenge of being a trainee is juggling study for the ACA and client work, but Sayer Vincent provides excellent support. We have a flexible working policy, which is especially useful for fitting client work around exam study. What makes the firm great is the people. The culture at Sayer Vincent is open and collaborative: all staff at every level have the opportunity to contribute to the firm’s success.”

Duncan – Year 3 trainee

“I’ve found the two most valuable aspects of working for Sayer Vincent to be my colleagues and the clients. As a firm, we have excellent clients and we make an effort to go out and talk to them. The working relationships that we form with our clients mean that we benefit from the enthusiasm that they have for their organisations. This makes our work enjoyable, and our clients are happy to help us. Internally, guidance and support is always on hand, and I’ve found this to be invaluable. There is no doubt that while studying for the ACA is interesting and rewarding, it can also be challenging. Several of the partners and managers trained here at Sayer Vincent, and this is evident as a trainee because it is clear that they know how to put us in the best position to succeed.”
