I had never wanted to be an accountant – having started my university life training as a teacher; an accountancy degree was just something I fell into once I had decided teaching was not for me. After completing my degree, I was not sure where I saw myself, but I knew I had no desire working for the corporate world. Finding Sayer Vincent has given me the unique opportunity to combine my love for accountancy with my passion for charities. My passion for charities started when I spent 3 months in Peru during my gap year volunteering with a small charity, in a special needs school. The charity was founded in 2001 by a 21-year-old keen to make a difference – seeing the huge challenges she had faced, along with the amazing achievements, made me start thinking about how I could contribute to this sector.

Having trained and qualified at Sayer Vincent, I have a real sense of commitment to the firm and the sector. The thing I love above all is interacting with people – both in the office as well as when I meet with clients. I also enjoy getting involved in the sector training that Sayer Vincent provides – an opportunity for me to dip my toe into teaching every now and then! No day is the same and I absolutely love the variety of work our clients do.

Brought up in Barbados, I still have that sense of adventure and I love travelling. I am always thinking about my next travel destination and get anxious if I do not have a holiday booked to look forward to! Having said that – my holidays now seem to be a lot more about relaxing – so more sun worshipping than sight-seeing!
