What has been your career path so far?

I joined Sayer Vincent in 2020, having previously worked in audit with clients across many different sectors. Lockdown gave me the chance to reassess what I wanted professionally. I’d enjoyed working with not-for-profit and charity clients and wanted to specialise further, so SV was the ideal opportunity. Before this, I studied History and then spent a decade as a primary school teacher. Now I’m lucky enough to be able to use some of these skills to support the Sayer Vincent trainees with their learning as they progress through the ACA qualification – although there is a disappointing lack of play-doh and papier mâché in accounting!

What are your key skills?

Like many small children, one of my favourite questions was “Why?”, and I’ve never really grown out of it. Whether you call it being inquisitive, or just nosy, I always want to know what’s going on. This makes being an auditor ideal, as so much of it is about making sure the story behind the numbers is consistent with what a set of financial statements are saying (as well as being compliant, of course). Having come from a background outside of finance, I know how intimidating financial statements can appear, so I’m always keen to make sure things are presented clearly and accessibly.

What do you get up to outside of work?

I’m a bit of a petrolhead, and love motorsport! I regularly volunteer as a marshal and member of an emergency rescue team at events across the UK. I’m also a part of the British Women’s Racing Drivers’ Club committee, supporting women and girls involvement in all levels of motorsport. Learning German and attempting to improve my French language skills fill up most of my other spare time.
